Assoc. Prof. Dr. Aykut Alper YILMAZ
"If you can't explain it simply, you don't understand it well enough."

Biography

Yılmaz’s main areas of research are in the Philosophy of Religion and the Philosophy of Mind. Within these fields, he is interested in the ways in which fundamental problems such as personal identity, free will, the materiality of human beings, and the nature of consciousness intersect with theological and philosophical frameworks.

Whilst appreciating the dominant role of dualism within theistic traditions, Yılmaz’s research pays special attention to the philosophical possibility of a materialist viewpoint as a viable alternative. His research to date has examined these issues through two major works: his first book, İnsan Nedir? (What is Human?), grounds his materialist approach, while his second, Düşünüyorum! Öyleyse Bir Ruhum Var (I Think! Therefore I have a Soul), expands the discussion by interrogating alternative viewpoints.
